Addiction comes from a place of brokenness. There is some wound deep inside that we seek to numb. In order to stay sober, we have to search out that brokenness and find healing for it. If we don’t then we run a real risk of relapse or cross-addiction.
It doesn’t matter how good the program is, if the addict refuses to participate, or plan on using when they get out, the program will not be successful. But the program isn’t necessarily flawed or inadequate. Often times, it is simply that the addict is unwilling, or unable to work the program. In this blog, I’d like to try and address what drives an addict to use.
To the addict that may be reading this, you are valuable and you are loved. There is hope. There is freedom. i should know. I am one.
You’re somebody’s brother, somebody’s son, somebody’s mother father, somebody’s someone. Somebody’s missing you where ever you came from, where ever you go, I hope you know, you’re somebody’s someone.
Families can help or hurt in this fight, there is no neutral. I can assure you, that if you do remain active, engaged, and on guard, the best days are yet to come.
