Behind the Smoke

87% of lung cancer deaths can be attributed to tobacco use. Lung cancer is the leading and most preventable form of cancer in the U.S.

Each year, secondhand smoke may be responsible for about 3,000 lung cancer deaths in nonsmoking adults and an additional 35,000 to 40,000 cases of heart disease in people who are not current smokers. Tobacco use is directly linked to erectile dysfunction and impotence.

Secondhand smoke exposure during pregnancy produces twice the risk of low birth weight babies. Miscarriages and still births are twice as prevalent in smoking mothers. Tobacco use is linked to health problems such as stomach ulcers, cancers, lung and heart damage, and strokes.
