What's in a Drink?
Americans consume the equivalent of 500 million gallons of alcohol each year. In American universities, drinking is responsible for 1,400 deaths and 500,000 injuries each year. Alcohol abuse can result in permanent heart, liver and brain damage. Every 30 minutes someone is killed in an alcohol-related accident. Drinking even once while pregnant can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, a cause of mental retardation in infants.
